Step 1: Access the Settings Menu

First, open your Facebook Messenger app. In the top left corner, tap the three horizontal lines to bring up the menu. Once you’re in the menu, find and tap the gear icon next to your profile picture. This will open the settings.

Step 2: Go to Account Options

Scroll down to the bottom of the settings menu until you see the Meta Account Center. Tap See More to view more account options. Now, choose Personal Details from the list.

Step 3: Start the Deactivation Process

Once you’re in the personal details section, tap Account Ownership and Control. Then, select Deactivation and Deletion to begin the deactivation process. Make sure you choose the Facebook profile that you want to deactivate.

Step 4: Choose Deactivation or Deletion

At this point, you’ll be given two options: you can either deactivate or delete your account. For this guide, let’s go with deactivation. To move forward, enter your password when prompted for verification.

Step 5: Enter Deactivation Details

Now, choose a reason why you want to deactivate your account from the list. After that, you can also choose how many days you’d like before your account is automatically reactivated. If you don’t want Messenger to stay active, make sure to turn off the Continue Using Messenger option.

Step 6: Finalize the Deactivation

Finally, tap Deactivate My Account. That’s it! Your Facebook Messenger account will now be deactivated.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to deactivate Messenger without any trouble. If you ever want to use it again, you can simply log back in.
