How to Use Green Screen in Adobe Premiere Pro

Green screens can make your videos look really cool by changing the background. If you want to learn how to do this in Premiere Pro, follow these easy steps!

Step 1: Add the Ultra Key Effect

First, you need to find the Ultra Key effect. Go to the effects panel in Premiere Pro. In the search bar, type “Ultra Key.” When you find it, drag and drop this effect onto your green screen clip in the timeline.

Step 2: Set Up Ultra Key

Now, make sure your clip is still selected. Head over to the effect controls panel. Look for the Key Color option. Click on the eyedropper tool next to it. Use this tool to click on the green part of your video. This tells Premiere Pro what color to remove.

Step 3: Fine-Tune the Keying

If there’s still some green left, don’t worry! You can fix it using the settings in the Ultra Key effect:

  • Matte Generation: Helps make the subject stand out.
  • Matte Cleanup: Cleans the edges.
  • Spill Suppression: Removes any green spill left on the subject.

Step 4: Add a New Background

Once the green is gone, the background will look black (this means it’s transparent). Move your green screen footage up to a higher video track. Then, drag your new background onto Video Track 1 below your edited footage.

Done!

That’s it! You’ve now successfully used a green screen in Premiere Pro. Your subject should be in front of the new background. If this guide was helpful, don’t forget to share it and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
